Upper Coomera to be or not to be?
Moving to Aus on 16/11/10 at last... sorted a rental Grange Boulevard, Upper Coomera. Anyone give me some good advice as to wether it is a good area? 2 kids aged 11 and 13 so also need to look at Upper Coomera State School which seems to have very MIXED reviews. Need to sign on dotted line in next day or two but want to be a bit more certain as not feeling anywhere near 100% thanks.

Hi our friend that migrated from the uk about five years ago was a teacher at that school and she was so upset with the place she left teaching.
Go private if you can afford it. |

No rush to get kids into school...all very laid back. Take your time, look around get a feel for things/places. I too would avoid that school....but admittedly only from what I've heard. Lokk at Assisi and St Stephens College (both fee paying) but in the area.
Best Wishes, Jan |

There was another murder just down the road in Coomera a couple of weeks ago. Husband beat his wife to death with a golf club.
Cant say I like the place when I drove around there. Growing to fast with too many houses. Ask yourself why are the rentals the cheapest on the northern gold coast? That mean a lot of undesirables who cant afford to live nearer the coast. Seen it with my owm eyes. |

I would have gone for a driver for that shot ;)
Bet it started over a round of golf. She fancied a game and he had to stay home with the kids :D |
Re: Upper Coomera to be or not to be?
Why would you sign up to a house and a school prior to seeing either? There is really no need, both are easily doable in a couple of weeks once here and you'd see for yourself what would suit you and your family. I also don't understand why you 'need' to sign up for the school in the next couple of days. Vast majority of them are happy for you to look around and interview one day with the aim of the child starting the next.
Hope the rental isn't more than three months. I should imagine finding yourselves locked into a rental for six months or more and realising within a week that it's not for you (general) could quite easily prevent you from settling into life here and make for a quick return - not unheard of by any means. |

Yeah as others have said ... don't do it!
Spent 2 yrs in Upper Coomera in 2 houses, never again! 2 'doing very well in UK' teenagers left the school without a qualification, altho thankfully boy went back and now goes to a decent school ... :) Grange Boulevard is in River Meadows ... often referred to River Ghettos ... |
Re: Upper Coomera to be or not to be?
We live in Upper Coomera in a lovely place called Coomera Springs.
http://www.coomerasprings.com.au/ It's like everywhere you have good and bad areas. We have good access to the motorway, train station and have 3 private schools in the area. They have built a new Woolworths etc. We are having a new TAFE being built on the other side of the motorway as well as a new town centre as you head to Coomera Waters. Behind us they are releasing acreage blocks. We find it lovely and quiet. We rented in the area that some of the others described and the houses were not as new, and yes the public school is crap. We had lovely neighbours and never had problems. I think some parts of Upper Coomera has lots of rentals and a high influx of migrants (from everywhere). There are some beautiful parts, try Coomera Springs, Coomera Retreat. Don't be put off by the negative vibes here. We have been here 3 years and it's getting better and better. |

We also live at Coomera Springs and it is really quiet our kids go to the Helensvale Schools. (Rented for 6 months in catchment) Really happy here, nice place. We avoided the school UCSC because of its reputation. Our kids are very happy where they are. Remember rough areas in Oz are NOT the same as rough areas in the UK! You have to be here to get a feel for an area. There is a massive cash injection going on in and around coomera i think they are spending close to $1billion in total with all investment.
