Default Update from Wellington.

We hit the South Island on the 26/10/03 in Christchurch, picked up vehicle bought on internet, which worked out very well. We then did some sight seeing and arrived in Wellington on 3/11/03. Manic 2 weeks, bought a house in Paraparaumu Beach, 4 beds, 1/4 acre section opposite the beach for $282,000 right result. local schools and College are excellent. Have found living expenses to be very good, food shop about 1/3 less than UK, petrol a joke and eating out 1/3 to half as cheap, the Kindergarden is $1.50 a day. Down sides are we still have not got our container from UK it is being unloaded from the ship 18/12/03 and we are missing friends and relatives alot. On a good note the LTBV got approved on 10/12/03, having been lodged on 20/06/03 which means we can stay, huge relief. Although we have only been hear 8 weeks and it has been hard work, it has been a fantastic experiance so far and well worth the effort, all the kids love it out here and have settled quicker than us. Happy Xmas to you all, and good luck at what ever stage you are at, if you want it and are positive anything is possible.

Cheers Kev.

Good news for you. Pacific blue will be starting flights from Wellington to Sydney so you have an escape route.

NZ is not somewhere I could live. I would go on holiday there but the place is too small in many ways. There are a lot of Kiwis who think exactly the same thing and only go back when they have to.

Anyway for those of you who have money in NZ or aren't too busy chopping wood.

Hi Kev

Glad to hear you've arrived safely and things are going well. You may remember we met on the flight to Singapore (We were Oz bound).

Life in Oz has treated us pretty well to so far. We've also got the car, job, schools stuff sorted.

Hope all stays good for you and the kids

Matt

Hi Matt, of course we remember you and your family, we are glad to hear things are going well, Singapore was very hot although the Zoo was fantastic and the kids rode on elephants. We are busy with the business at the moment and hoping our stuff arrives for Xmas. We will be out to Oz at some stage in the near future(for the shops). Anyway keep us updated and good luck.

Kev.

Kev,

Just looking for an update on how things are going, another month on. Have you moved into your house at Paraparaumu? If so, how do you like the area?

Hi Kev,

Nice one Kev good result on getting LTBV, we are planning same. Was it OK to buy business/house before getting visa and are there any advantages in doing so? Had you been to NZ before you applied for visa? Had you decided on your business before you got to NZ or did you find/start it after arrival? If you have any tips we would love to hear them.

Cheers

Hi there

There's nothing to stop anyone from owning a business or a hosue as non-resident, but you can't work in your business until you get a permit ie SMC, Work2Res, LTBV. Until then you can only act as company director. NZIS have been known to visit the proposed business and catch applicants working....

If you are acting on behalf of foreign compnay yopu can sell goods in NZ for 3m of year as long as the foreign company take all the money.

NZIS used to like seeing businesses in hand with LTBV applciations, lately they have been saying "don't put us under pressure, saying deal is waiting for NZIS decision" etc.

I'd suggest only buying something of significant value when you get the permit, otherwise you risk having to ditch it if you don't succeed.

By all means narrow the biz choices down before arrival, but allow the chance for NZ to work on you as you might find one part of NZ really calls you, but the business idea is in another part....

Happy hunting
