Unlocking Mobiles

A friend of mine has given me a Nokia 6230i that they have never used and a fairly new Nokia 8800 Arte which he has forgotten the pin code for. Can I get these phones unlocked when I arrive in Brisbane so that I can just buy a sim card to use in them?

Thanks

Yes, although it might be easier to get them unlocked before you go, seeing as they're UK mobiles (I presume?).

I had the SIM lock restriction removed the other day on my Noka 6230i (mine was locked to Orange). I've successfully tested it with a Virgin SIM which means I'll be able to use it with an AUS SIM. You need to post your IMEI number on the unlock forum at http://unlocknokia.us/ and one of the guys will help you with the passcode you need to enter. The site seems to do quite a few Nokias as some sort of public service.

I am sure there is a "little man in the market" of your UK home town - far easier to get it unlocked there than to try and get a phone unlocked in Australia! Do that before you leave I suggest.

Just do it online - takes 5 minutes.

Doesn't work for all phones, lots of newer ones need carrier unlock, which costs around 15 quid, either way best to go it before leaving.

If you do it in Brisbane go to mobiles made simple on Adelaide Street. He'll sort you out. mobilemadesimple.com.au
