Can anyone tell me if there is a central organisation who can give me info on university courses in Australia - the equivilent to UCAS in the UK?

I think its www.uac.edu.au

www.australian-universities.com.au is helpful too for searching Uni's and courses state to state

www.uac.edu.au is what you are looking for. This applies to Aus/NZ citizens and Aus PRs who are actually in Aus.

International students apply direct to the Uni (and pay lots more).

Only for universities in NSW/ACT it seems.

Different states will have their own 'version' of UCAS. Best option is to start from the university website of your choice and it will tell you the admissions process.

Bear in mind some Australian universities are much better regarded than others. The Group of Eight are generally considered the best: http://www.go8.edu.au
