Universities

Can anyone reccomend a book that outlines courses available at Aus universities and perhaps some info on the area the university is situated in, no of students, halls of recidence etc. I know there is info available on line, but would like a book if possible and prosepctus's (?) aren't available yet for 2007.

Also, are there any students who know at what point you would receive a firm offer. If you receive A level results this August, at what point would the universities make their offers?

Thank you

In NSW, Universities make their first round offers in early January. Most Uni offers are based on the applicant's UAI which in turn is calculated from their HSC results which come out just before Christmas.

I received an offer from memory in the January before my A level results came out.

Thanks JAJ and all

I have just ordered the University guide 2006 online and if anyone else is interested it cost $53.50 - for international delivery.

Thanks Lis

Also, do first year students tend to stay in halls of residence like they do in the uk, or would we need to find accomodation?

Lots of people use halls of residence. Many of my friends lived locally and so they lived at home with their parents.

We also found that Halls of residence were a rip off and we could get a lovely apartment on Southbank for cheaper between 2 of us :P
