Don't they have a magazine or newspaper that covers rankings? Macleans does it annually in Canada.

Rankings are bullshit and everyone knows this.
Melbourne Uni is the best uni in Australia and one of the best in the world and everyone knows this.

It all depends on what you are studying.
But in General ANU is the top in Australia, and pretty high in world rankings. It's also actually well known outside of Australia in many areas (Melbourne isn't really).
And also, ANU is the only University in Australia to have an exchange agreement with Oxford
As for Canberra Night Life... a city with three Universities, many Academies and lots of young new people joining the public service means Canberra has an excellent night life, full of young people.

I've also noticed that Canberra has quite a night-life . It's a big relief that they don't do it UK style. And not seen any bad behaviour yet
