No I don't suppose there is, it is a huge blow to the area.

Massive. Port Kembla is a big part of the cities identity.

It's a sad state of affairs. I love seeing heavy industrial areas as they are a sign of a nation's wealth and give many ordinary, working people good jobs, and when they go it's not good.

A race to the bottom, is one that the UK surely would be favourite to win.at present.

More UK vs Oz nonsense. People in the UK go on holiday in July/August. This is when they spend money, I predict a similar headline around Xmas! It's not hard to work out unless you're a simpleton.

Don't be bloody daft. People are not feeling worse off 'cos they've just splashed out on a Caribbean cruise. They are feeling worse off because they are seeing a real decline in disposable income.

Yes we are all feeling it, the money coming in isn't exceeding the money going out for many people.

Stupid bint. It's like asking someone to tie their shoelaces when their legs are falling off

What is she trying to prove? This should be on the back burner until industry and people can afford it

Agreed, it's no different here in Australia. Disposable incomes seem to be getting squeezed, for a variety of reasons, for much of the populous.

The problem is there is no solution on the horizon, it will just get worse.

Yes but I've been saying that the Australian economy is buggered for quite a while and many on here are in denial about it. Just more evidence. I completely agree that the UK is in a pretty bad state but the first thing you have to do to address the problems is admit they exist. I don't see too much of that in Australia yet. It's just a matter of time until the mega mortgages come home to roost.
