Well yes this is correct of course but my point was that in both countries the vast majority are working.

The unemployment figures are government statistics and as such should be assumed to be lies, just like the inflation figures.

No I don't but I've heard tales of people struggling to get work, in many different industries. I believe the real un(der)employment figure is much higher than stated, just like inflation.

I don't personally know anyone who is unemployed in either country to be honest. I can't for 1 second take the inflation rate as serious having seen how everything has risen so sharply.

Skills are the issues. I have had a hell of a time trying to fill three positions in our company. One is still open as despite advertising State wide on a range of mediums, I haven't had a CV from a single person worth even spending the time to interview.

The other two I have filled, but only had one suitable candidate for each position.

Same for us, very hard to find good people.

It's holding our project back.

That's bullshit, sorry to hear that.

Shit, I have such a cushy job but I have nightmares about what I'd do if I ever got "let go".

So did I. Still am funnily enough. Hey, it's not all bad, did my tax return the other day, got about 1,600 coming back.

At least the sun's shining.

My BIL in the UK has just been told he will finish working at Christmas. He works for the company who maintain all the railway lines in the UK. They are cutting back on maintenance crews this year. My brother works for Landrover as a mechanic. 2 mechanics have been let go this year and he has been told to keep his ears out and if he gets a better offer then give it serious thought. My father and step mother worked for the MOD until 2 year ago and former colleagues are being made redundant, the MOD are making huge cuts.

Sadly it happening the world over.

that is average % given the South figures. Yorkshire has got 9% and North west/ east/ scotland are up at 11%

Absolutly spot on. If one half of a couple finds themself out of work and their partner earns more than $550 a week , the other half can't claim centerlink benefits. This means no benefits which means not captured as unemployed which means they are not in the unemployment stats

The chances of a partner of an unemployed person being on $550 week is high so that's a LOT of unemployed people not being accounted for in the stats.

Don't believe everything you read from governments
