Un/heated pools??
To all of you in Perth and Sydney lucky enough to own a (unheated)pool,
Do you still use it in May or is the weather not warm enough?
Looking at holiday rentals but if a heated pool is a wise choice it limits the options substantially.
Thanks

Re: Un/heated pools??
It really depends on the place/pool/location.
I have lived in a couple of houses with pools, generally they are pretty chilly from July till sept (ie peak of winter) and I wouldn't normally want to be swimming in them.
However, I lived in one place where the pool got full sun almost all year round, and it was concrete/tile construction so the water seemed to hold the heat a little better).....
Still, heated is a good option!

I wouldn't be in an unheated pool in May. However, if we were just over from the UK, I suspect my kids would be.............. they were in September when we arrived !

Re: Un/heated pools??
We have a solar heated pool and may is about the limit of use.
It depends though, if your fresh off the boat then you might enjoy swimming in May.

Re: Un/heated pools??
Ours is unheated and I reckon we are getting to the end of comfortable usage now so May is a NO NO.

Also depends if you have a solar blanket, put that on during the week and the pool is normally hot to warm when you take it off and lasts a day or so like that..

Re: Un/heated pools??
Solar heating should be about the size of the pool.
Just got a quote for 5K in brissy for 40m area, high power pump and solar controller.

Re: Un/heated pools??
mine isn't heated but have pool blanket which works well it's 29c in there today..when you have a pool there comes a time in the year when you just don't want to go in any more (you get spoiled) that time is coming soon (depends on the weather)
handy hint....use your pool as a model boating pond in the winter!!!!
i do

Anyway I am interested in the difference a solar heated pool makes in comparision to say a Solar Electricity system that allows you to run the electric style hEater for free.
Obviously the cost variance is a few K!

Hi
Unheated - I definately would not be using it in May
Solar Heated - may be - but doubt it - children would I think, they normally dont mind

Re: Un/heated pools??
I think it was about 2.5 - 3k when we had it put in about 5 years ago.
I think it's worth it, it extends the swimming season a few months each year so when you compare it the cost of the pool it seems good value.
ie 1/3 more usage for a few thousand.
Bunnings seems to have a DIY pool solar kit now so that might be a cheaper option.

Re: Un/heated pools??
So you generate Electricity and use that to power a heater? I'm guessing that would not be as efficient and cost a lot more.
