Default Umbrella Companies? Working for a foreign employer.

Does anyone have any experience working for a foreign employer (in this case a NZ company) which wants to use an umbrella company here in Oz to handle tax, super etc? I have been offered a good job, but having received my contract now find that i will in fact be an "independant professional" working for this Oz company that then contracts me to the company that wants to hire me. I am feeling a bit uneasy about this, does anyone have any words of wisdom??

Sounds like you are a consultant. Pretty standard really.

Its a strange set up as I am actually classed as an employee, I don't get a contractor rate. I'm now looking into whether I can work using my own ABN. Umbrella companies are fine if your a contractor, my husband actually uses one but I don't fancy working for a third party I want to deal with my employer directly and feel part of the company rather than an outsider. I'll see what happens.
