We have a TV we are taking though because you can apparently get them converted. If it's a good Telly and cost you a bit it might still be worth taking.
It works absolutely fine with a $79 set top box from Aldi. No tuning/conversion etc required.
We've bought a new LCD telly to go in the Home Theatre room

In fact, we had a DV Recorder (Liteon) from the UK and THAT tuner works perfectly in Australia. Just went into the 'Settings' menu, changed it from UK to Aus, and it picked up all the TV channels fine - even auto-tuned in and named them all correctly! (Seven, Nine, Ten, ABC, SBS)

Definitely don't think about buying a new telly, the offering on the 5 channels is pretty poor, and with the climate and better OPs to get out, you'll probably end up using the 'idiot box' a lot less than in Blighty.

Yes, this is so true. We tend to read at the mo or play silly board games in the evening over a bottle of wine. (It's a riot at my house, you'd love it... )
We watch the ABC a bit if it's raining because that's very good for children's programmes in the afternoon (I have three children, plus my husband so that's four)
Other than that, it hardly ever goes on because we're at the park after school, or at the lake, or on a bush walk. We've sort of got out of the habit of TV because we had a month without one, so the kids are automatically playing when we get in, or reading. It's excellent.
