UK Tax Rebate if leaving during tax year??
Hi
I remember reading somewhere that you can get a tax rebate on taxes paid in the UK if you are leaving the country during a tax year.
I have searched but can't find any ref' to it. Am I imagining things?
If it is possible does anyone know if it aplies to a 457 visa and how it is calculated?
Thanks, BiB

You want tax form P85 from the HM Revenue and Customs web site.

Sorry to be thick. Is this only applicable to 457 visa applicants or PR's too?

Hi can you apply for this from Australia or does it need to be done before leaving the UK?
Many thanks

You can apply from Australia, the form is for those who have left and about to leave the UK. You can nominate where to send the money.

Yeah but beware you may owe money...we got a letter saying my husband owed 4000 pounds....the tax office had been applying his allowances to both his MOD pension and his wages and no one had notice for 3 years! and guess what...cos they cocked up we have to pay at a very stressful and expensive time. :curse:

Obviously, the thing to do before you fill in and send off the form, is to calculate if you are due a refund or if you owe money! If you owe money - don't send off the form.
Just did this for my husband and we're due a refund of £2,575.76 - very happy with that .

Out of interest, how do you calculate this?
