Default Uk tax and child benefit

Hi everyone

As many of you british guys are already in oz and we are patiently waiting for our visa, i wondered if you would give us a few pointers.

What happens with informing the UK tax office that your leaving the UK?
what happens with the child benefit payments etc?
Do you tell the NHS?
Can you retain a UK bank account?

Any pointers advise would be gratefully recieved

ou notify the tax office of the date you are leaving and claim back any overpaid taxes.
You also notify the child benefit centre that you are leaving and your child benefit also stops.
Many on here believe they are still entitled to child benefit for up to 12 weeks after they leave, and quite freely take it!!!!. This is not true. many dont even bother letting the child benefit centre know they have left the country and biuld themselves a 'nice little nest egg'
we advised our bank that we were living in perth, but our accounts are still open. family pay cash into the account for the kids birthdays and things like that

1) Tax - form P85 will notify the Tax Office you are no longer resident in the UK, and if you send your P45 you may get a refund.
2) notify them you're leaving, payments iwill cease.
3 Up to you, the receptionist at my surgery said "we don't care" - however, if you;re in a practice where the doctors are popular, you would be doing somone else a favour - if you are taken off the doctor's list, there is room for somone else.
4 Yes.
