Default UK state pension and Australian tax

Can anyone tell me if you pay australian income tax on your UK state pension if you are a permanent resident in oz and you are not working?

would this be different if you were on a temp visa?

Thanks
Tiggs

Once you are in Oz, you pay income tax on your world-wide income less any tax -free allowances you are entitled to (doesn't matter if you're there on a perm or temp visa). Your UK state pension is part of your world-wide income. So, yes, you will pay tax on it - how much will depend on how much income you have and what types of allowances you are entitled to.

All correct except that since 1 July 2006 there are some tax exemptions on foreign sourced income that some temporary residents can claim.

You will only pay OZ Tax on OZ earned income if you are on a temp visa. You will pay UK tax on it though. Are you on a 410 visa? If so do a search on;

Sorry you are wrong, as from I think it was April people on a temp visa do not pay tax in Australia on income derived outside of Australia. I am sure the UK tax people will be interested though.

Only if the income is sourced in the UK (assuming the person is not UK tax resident).
