UK rental property
If you live in Australia and declare rental properties that you own in the UK to the ATO can you claim flights back to the UK as tax deductible?

Re: UK rental property
If you are just going to inspect it and do a few odd jobs and spend a day doing it on a 10 day trip you can claim 10% of the flights as a deduction.
That's how it used to work, it might have changed though,

The ATO publish a guide to Rental Properties (https://www.ato.gov.au/uploadedFiles...3n17290613.pdf.
In it (Page 13) they have an example of people flying to inspect their rental property and combining the visit with a holiday. In that situation, the flights are not deductible but a portion of their accommodation and local travel costs are.
I believe that nowadays the only way to claim the cost of the flights is when the sole purpose of the trip is to do the inspection. Ie. you fly there, inspect and immediately fly back.
The ATO aren't daft. They're not going to subsidise people's overseas holidays if they can help it.
