Default UK Registered Psychologists

Hi,

is there any psychologists who registered in the UK, but moved to Australia? We want to move over, but it seems really tricky in terms of achieving Australian registration

Thanks

Jodie

It is. Dealing with AHPRA can be wrist slitting territory. It's basically a start again process but if you've got your PhD or masters with lots of clinical experience you should be OK. I've not done it recently and they've raised the bar consistently. Also remember that there are more psychologists to the square inch in Australia than anywhere else in the world so it's a competitive field and some specialities are more in demand than others.

Thank you. I have specialised in a niche area I’m a forensic psychologist, but this complicates things further as a lot of my job opportunities would be working for the department of corrections which you can’t do unless you are a citizen or have a PR visa. Not looking good for me!

Correct! Nice area of specialisation through! You would need PR at least.

I have applied for provisional registration with AHPRA a while ago and still waiting for the outcome. I have BSc Hons and Masters from UK and hoping to get provisional registration accepted. Does anyone have any experiences? Also I have been waiting over 8 weeks now.
