Uk mobile phone in Oz?
has anyone been able to take their uk phone and simply get an australian sim card?

My friends over there have also recommended me the Vodaphone $49 cards with the extra credit. Do you by any chance have the EBay sellers details?

We just bought a couple of Virgin sims and popped them into the UK phones which worked fine. sims were $9 and we got $20 worth of free credit. Did not want a contract until I knew what we were doing so this works well for us.

There is usually a "little man" in a local market who will unlock it for you for a few quid. You will still get the branding stuff though, like the start up screen and you will need settings if you want to access the net on it - just call your new provider and they will sms you the settings. I am using my son's hand me down O2 phone at the moment.
