Post Re: UK Medical Records

Visiting an Aus GP (that's if you get an Aussie one) all seems a bit hit and miss! Which is not very re-assuring if you really are ill and want to be taken seriously.

Is there any way of tracking surgeries which have any UK GP's employed (not saying they are all great) but someone not using a dictionary would be a good start.

I am particulary interested in NSW, where we will be heading, any good bad experiences with GP's.

And dentists for that matter, how do they fair looking after your gnashers?

cheers

We didn't bother bringing our medical records with us and we've never been asked for them when registering with a new GP.

However, I did bring a copy of my maternity notes from my first pregnancy. And the midwives and obs here have all thoroughly read them. I'm very pleased I brought them with me, as they can give informed advice on my care throughout this pregnancy. And I can ignore it.

So I'd say that general medical records aren't essential, but if there's something that you'd expect to see a specialist here about, notes related to that might be worth bringing.

Which words did she have trouble with? (Or for my fellow pedants, with which words did she have trouble?)

That is the sort of pedantry up with which I will not put!

Basic description of symptoms of infected eczema along with a request for a prescription for antibiotics- which lets face it is not the most complex of conditions to describe!

Depends, in my opinion, how good you doctor is.

The first time I went to see my doc he ordered full bloods (and they take a bloody lot for that), did blood pressure, looked in my mouth, checked weight, height, asked me about any issues, all of them, he did a two slot appointment for me and my wife. He stopped short of the rectal exam.......

Although I personally think he's an excellent dic who comes highly recommended from family and friends over here.

You shouldn't need a note from doc at all, as the doc you see will assess you int here own way, you can just tell him your current meds.

We just rang our UK doctor from Aus to ask for a copy of our medical records. They emailed them to us free of charge.
When I called in to our Practice in Brisbane, I ended up speaking to the nurse who checked the kids' details for jabs etc in order to see if they were up to date. As our kids had already receive some immunisation, my wife tells me that we may actually receive some funding for this!
Never been charged a penney or dollar

Can't be too sure. Women looking like men, men looking like women. Men speaking like women, women speaking like men.

It's hard to keep track these days.
