Default UK House Sale Completion & Shipping

On the basis that in the UK a house sale is not complete until all contracts and funds have been exchanged and given that a house sale *could* fall through at the very last minute, what would happen if you were all packed up and the shipping company was ready to go with all of your stuff and then your house sale fell through at the last minute???

Would the shipping company put your belongings into storage or would they unpack and clear off??

I guess what I'm asking is :

1/ At what point do you appoint a shipping company?
2/ At what point do you give the go-ahead for your stuff to be shipped (including pets!)

I'd be interested to hear how you'd plan this as I'd hate the thought of our belongings and dog being on the other side of the world while we could be faced with the potential prospect of having to put the house on the market again and recalling all our stuff!!

Cheers

Hi BD,

I have a feeling you can insure against this. But the best thing to do is ask the companies you get in for quotes.
