Default UK DVD Players and Aussie TVs

We have a UK DVD Player and an Aussie TV.

In the UK we used a scart lead but the Aussie TV is not scart compatiable. I have tried a S-Video lead but no joy. Not picking up the DVD player.

Can you connect a UK DVD Player with an Aussie TV?

Suggestions welcomed.

You need one of these: http://www.tvcables.co.uk/cgi-bin/tv...HT311-150.html

Not sure if they sell them in Australia as I haven't looked, but if you take a picture to dick smiths, Tandy's etc then they should be able to help you.

Failing that either get one shipped from the UK or buy a new DVD player (you can get them for less than $100 if you look around )

The DVD player only has a SCART output ?? That seems a little rare, no composite or component RCA sockets ?

The UK DVD player will work fine on an Australian TV, it just depends on the sockets. I would be staggered if the DVD only had a SCART output and frankly if it did, ditch and but a new one here. You can pick up a decent Philips DVD player with DivX playback and front USB socket for less than £100 here.

So there are no Red, Yellow and White RCA sockets on the back ?

If all you have is SVideo and Audio out then you can pick up a cheap S-Video to RCA cable from Tandy in the UK or Dick Smith here

do your DVD player and TV both have HDMI links ? If so you will be able connect via this method.
I also believe if your TV has a RCA connection you are able to get a connector from Scart to RCA - I know they sell them in the UK - not sure about Australia.

Hope this helps

I seriously doubt it would have HMDI if the other outputs are S-Video and SCART. It sounds like an old player

How didn't it work ? SCART to RCA didn't work, S-Video to RCA didn't work, there are no RCA sockets on the player ? Which is it

Could you post the ake and model of each unit please? We can check manuals on line and see what options you have as this is very odd

Sometimes you have to "tell" the dvd player which vidoe output you want it to use. Check out the manual (find it online if you have lost it) and you may be able to change the output to the RCA or S-Video via your remote and all will be good

This is EXACTLY the problem... either on the TV or the DVD player and possibly both. The ports will be working but the signal will have to be told where to go.

It will probably not have HDMI given what the OP said, and it may not even have component as quite a few do not, thus I'd say look to either get a scart converter (to RCA's) thus using your own scart lead or just use s-video.

In the absence of scart, s-video would be better than composite (rca plugs).
