UK banks in OZ, any advantage ?

Hi,

I was wondering if, prior to making the move from the UK to OZ, there would be any advantage in opening an account with a UK bank that also operates in Australia ? If there advanatges, what are they ? I know HSBC fit this category, are there any others and does anyone have any experience of doing this ?

Thanks.

Re: UK banks in OZ, any advantage ?

No other UK bank operates a retail network in Australia. The US bank Citibank has
retail operations in both the UK and Aus.

There's also:

- National Australia Bank owns four UK/Irish banks, the Yorkshire Bank, Northern
Bank, Clydesdale Bank and National Irish Bank.

- HBOS - the parent company of Halifax and Bank of Scotland - owns (most of) the
Perth based BankWest.

Not sure what extra benefit there is from using one of these banks and opening an
account via the Commonwealth Bank's London branch.
