UK ADSL modem compatible in Oz?

Hi,
I am currenly using ADSL broadband here in UK. We are moving to Brisbane in couple of months time and would like to know if my ADSL modem will work with ADSL broadband Telstra offers?

Many thanks, Kimmo

If you know how to set the VPI/VCI setting then yes it will work here. Your main mistake is chosing Helstra. Put broadband into search and you will find some previous threads regarding ISPs.

You may be talking about cable then in which case you ADSL router would be useless. If you can get Helstra ADSL you can connect to any other local ISP.

Any idea of how long you have to wait to get the broadband up and running. Days or weeks from when you order it?

I may work from home and would need an unlimited broadband and quite soon after relocating.

Hi Kimmo

We have just signed up to broadband with Telstra, in answer to your questionit probably is compatable but when you sign up you can opt for a self install package - they send you a adsl modem in the post and you set it up yourself costs $129.00 - about £52.00 ' ish this is with Bigpond unlimited access 1.5mb speed per month is $99.95 - £40
Hope this is of help - we are in Brissie as well.

regards

Debs

I believe telstra say within 2weeks (presuming the copper from your house is good enough) but I found myself connected within a week. Telstra actually connect you at the exchange to your ISP. If you live near an exchange with iinet or iprimus you maybe able to get a higher speed service for less money. These exchanges are few and far between.

I use www.aanet.com.au

Got a new phone line and broadband up and running at a new rental in 7 days.

Use the plan search facility on the Whirlpool site to see what schemes are available in the area.......probably lots. |Don't forget to check you can get it in the area you intend to live !

I use http://www.tpg.com.au/
Cheapest I could find for 1.5mb and 20gb monthly then throttled.
Works a dream.
