Two Questions
Hi,
Got a couple of questions, I don't know if anybody can help us with.
1. My wife should hopefully still receive child maintenance when we emigrate in July. Will this be taxable in Australia?
2. My wife's eldest, age 25, is hoping to join us once we're settled. I am Australian and my wife has a spouse visa. What route would be best for her son to migrate?
Thanks in advance for any info!
Glenn

Noone has responded on this forum so try posting it on the OZ/NZ Immigration forum instead.
Hopefully you will have better luck

um...regarding your first question, I dont know if she will still get it. Is it an arrangement through the csa or a private arrangement? I may be wrong, but the csa is administered by the government under an act of parliament/Statutory Instrument, (cant remember which) and as such the payments/orders are only applicable within the uk jurisdiction.
I may be wrong....you need to ring the csa to get the correct info. if it is still payable then it would be taxed in aus, as thats where you will be recieving the income.
have the csa got a website??

csa site - www.csa.gov.uk

Thanks for the responses. Apparently there is a reciprocal agreement between Australia and UK, according to the Australian CSA website.
I'm surprised if I have to pay tax on the maintenance, as UK tax has already been paid. I'll have to check that out when I get to Australia.
We'll be seeing a solicitor who specialises in such cases in the next couple of weeks, to see whether the absent parent pays under UK or Australian calculations.
Thanks
Glenn

Your wife's son has potentially several options. Without additional information about his personal circumstance, proper pointers cannot be given, unfortunately.
I would suggest you read the skilled migration booklet or other relevant booklets at
http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/books_migrate.htm
Bear in mind a child who is not dependent on your wife may have some options closed.
