Default TV arrived from with no sound. Help ??

TV arrived from UK. Picture is fine but no sound coming from it. It plays DVDs OK but nothing else. Sony Trinitron about 5 years old.

Someone told me if you get cable TV that solves it. Any ideas outwith getting cable TV how to fix it?

Any answers other than but a new one would be appreciated.

Thanks

Just get a cheap Australian video or dvd RECORDER. So long as it has a tuner you can put the tv through that and get sound no problem.

You can get your TV converted or as sunbather suggests buy an aussie dvd/video player with receiver.

Also look on the net for the engineers manual for that model and hopefully there will be a sneaky little engineers secret setting you can change via your remote control.

You're looking to change the setting to PAL B/G.

Got the same tv as you, and had the same problem. Digi box works fine.

We brought 4 tv's from UK as we had not had them long They all have teletext which appears not to be so common out here. We got a couple of old video players at garage sales $5 each and they work excellently. Just remember you cannot tape what you are not watching?
It is handy to have teletext as - with the open plan houses - if you are watching separate programmes one of you uses teletext and a low sound and then you do not have problems with each others programmes. Witht rhwe advent of dvd's there are hundreds of cheap video players in the op shops as well.

Don't rush out to buy a VCR just yet - there are a few engineer's tricks you can play with your remote even if your manual doesn't say you can change from PAL I to PAL B/G.

Try this specific thread on all matters Sony at - Agoraquest - Sony PAL Switch Thread, otherwise do a search on the forums. Pretty useful site for everything Sony-related.

cheers,

Big.
