is this true?

i hear people advising me not to post my resume on seek and career job sites; because if i do so then the recruitment agencies will shun me off. I have been asked to refrain from uploading my cv in public job sites when i am taking help of recruitment agencies.
Is this true?

thanks in advance for the replies.

Cheers!

I'm not sure where did you hear this. But as far as I know this isn't true.

Well Aussies agencies do tend to be a bit funny if your CV states "porn star specialising in animal work" It kind of limits your options:blink::blink:

No its not true. I work in the employment services industry and I asked one of my colleagues who deals with job placement and she just looked slightly puzzled.

Basically if you have the skills to get a job the recruitment agency will be wanting to get that fee.

One top tip for general on line applications is to spend a little bit of time customising your resume. The first pass of resumes is done by software which is looking for keywords and phrases. Generally the keywords and phrases would appear in the job ad itself. It will also be looking for simillar words\phrases etc but you'll get a higher score using the same phrases.

As a recruiter I can tell you that this is true. The reason being is that recruiters work on commission. If you have your CV posted online, everyone has access to it so the chances of a particular recruiter placing you into a job diminishes. Consequently, it means a recruiter could end up doing a lot of work without getting paid.

Who wants to do that?

A good recruiter will work with candidates on an exclusive or near exclusive basis. Only the cowboys will touch online CV's and then they will just send your CV all over the place. Another reason why a recruiter wouldn't touch an online CV.

And for every agency that has got your CV the chances of a particular agency actually placing you diminishes. It becomes a lottery.

Better of to work with one agency rather than pit every agency against each other.
