Default Travellers Cheques

Hi All

Just to advise you that we moved over to oz recently, before coming here we popped into the travel agents to get some currency and was advised by the agent to take cash and American express travellers cheques which we did. We was advised that we could use the cheques in stores in replacement of money and there would not be a charge and if we had a $50 note then we could exchange it instore to the value of $50. NO WORRIES about the exchange rate. Great we thought, !st time we came to use them they would not accept them and each time after same again........... Oh sorry we do not accept these never seen them before......... and that was in some of the big stores even.
Luckily we was with friends at the time who had a C/C . Since been into the bank who exchanged them.

Just thought I should warn you.
