Travel time info from Auckland please folks!
Hi guys,
We have some relatives over to stay at the moment. They are going up to Auckland on Friday and are trying to work out travel times.
They are leaving Auckland airport at 1.00pm on Friday afternoon and are heading to Paihia and would like to know roughly how long this will take and what traffic to expect. If anyone can enlighten us we would be most grateful.
Thanks
Paula

HI
foremostly make sure they have or get a flamin good map.
friday afternoon will be the worst time to take the longest slowest way through auckland city from airport northbound.
there are 3 options; i would take motorway to city #20, take queenstown exit to mt albert road follow this west to highway 16 which bypasses auckland then follow this either the scenic route via helensville or rejoin highway 1, north of albany (a congested bottleneck). rejoining hiway 1 allows them to visit waiwera (geothermal pools north of orewa).
going thru auckland is direct but busy! until they're north of albany.
also suggest they ferry across from paihia to russell - a nice spot.
