Can anyone tell me the cheapest provider of Travel Insuranace on trips within Australia.
I am being quoted 150 for a 1 week trip to Queensland from Melbourne... Thats a joke.

You have Medicare which covers you for health Australia wide.
You have many international conventions which cover you for delayed/cancelled flights. Even the budget airlines here provide you with a hotel and later flight if your current one is cancelled.
So what’s left? If you break a camera or get your wallet stolen? Chances of that are slim, and within the same country as unlike overseas holidays, you can just walk into a branch and cancel your cards and get cash out.
So yea, question is, why? lol
If you have other reasons, Virgin Travel Insurance is usually cheap, my mate got it for $40 for a week to the gold coast (you don’t have to be travelling with Virgin to get it).

The best reason to get local travel insurance is to avoid the approx $20-30 per day charge that car hire companies often charge to bring the collision excess down from thousands to hundreds.
For example www.travelinsurancedirect.com.au charge roughly $90/family/week for internal australian travel. This covers you for a $4000 excess. Excess reduction on a hire car may cost around $210/week. So you save $120/week.
Only down side is you have to pay excess if you have a crash and then claim back.
Bonus is you are then also covered for cancellation costs due to family illness, luggage, death etc...
