Travel insurance for UK visitors
Can anyone help with suggestions for UK insurers to cover visitor here in oz for a few months.
Person is over 70 and although relatively healthy (controlled BP) now, has had cancer in past and many insurers either won't touch her or want an arm and leg to insure her
Is it possible in this circumstance to get cover for the journeys and rely on medicare (reciprocal) whilst here? I presume this means no repatriation if she fell ill/died (!!) here.

The UK Post Office also used to have a special policy for the over 70s. Just had a look and they still do it up to 74 years of age:

£400 for a couple is pretty cheap. My MIL has paid almost that herself and she just has a puffer for an asthma problem a good few years back. The over 70 bit pushes the premium really high.
As others have said try SAGA and the Post Office.

There's no cheap option. My parents in their late 70s have paid about £600 for a 4 month policy.
Do have a look at Lloyds Banks Platinum current account. My Dad was told you get free travel insurance with it up to age 80 (so you'd open it and pay about £10 a month fee until you got home and close account), but I'm not sure about pre-existing conditions. Worth a look though.

Thanks so much everyone. We will investigate the options you've all mentioned - its got to be better than what they paid last time.
