Re: Travel ban exceptions
It seems Home Affairs have taken down the link to apply for an exemption, can't access it.

Louie, from your signature line, did you finally make citizenship? Good on you! Where is your caravan now? Find a good park and hunker down! The borders to the Kimberley are now closed and doubtful will be the last region to do so.

Hi louie, thanks. Yes I got the link to work and will go with "People who are travelling on urgent and unavoidable personal business" You get the option to explain why this is.

Qantas is routing some flights through Darwin - Sydney flight refuelling there and then non-stop to London. For as long as they're still flying at least.

I think QF1/2 might have been short-lived on that route. There doesn't seem to be any more ex Australia flights after yesterday. QF9 MEL-PER-LHR is still operating, but presumably full.

Thanks Kooky, I've booked a flight for him with Qatar, hopefully it will depart and he's applied for the exemption so fingers crossed it all works. Cheers.

He applied for the exemption last week and we haven’t heard anything. His flight is booked for Sunday and after tomorrow he’ll effectively be homeless. Is anyone else waiting or has anyone received their exemption and how long did it take?

Re: Travel ban exceptions
Well it was nearly a disaster at the airport today. They wouldn’t let him proceed to the flight even though he produced evidence of his non return to Australia and also that we had applied for an exemption. Border control told him to email the crisis management team which I did and fortunately they responded within about 15 mins and granted the exemption. He just made it to the flight and is on his way home.
So, travellers definitely need an exemption and if it’s getting near to the travel date, chase them for a response.
