Transporting TV's in containers
Do people really save their TV boxes and put their TVs back in them to transport?
If we go with Crown they will provide a wooden case, however, if we do it ourselves OH thinks it's fine in a TV box (which it came in).
My issue is if they see it in a box they may ask how old it is??
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks Sam

Mmm, we have a tv that we still have the box for too and we wondered the same question.
Last time they made up a huge wooden crate which cost us £80 and for piece of mind it was money well spent. The tv went to oz then back to the uk, and it's going to oz again (shame we threw the crate away).

We still have the box our tv came in and its going out to oz in it. When getting prices from 2 shipping companies they asked had we the box of the tv and if we had then they would use that and they would make sure the tv was well protected in the box.

Better safe than sorry particularly if it is your pride and joy...get the packers to do it, they break they pay!

Just wrapped all ours in bubble wrap - they arrived fine. Had a box for an lcd one - put it in that. No worries.
Just insure with Letton if packing own container. Good value.

I work for a intl. removal company and I would say keep the original box (if you have the polystryene inserts as well) and it's as safe as a specially made crate, if not safer - and you save £40-£80 on getting one made. Just make sure the packers will still consider it for full pack. If the packers pack they don't pay unless you have insurance and if they consider that you have 'owner packed' they will not pay out for damage. Double check about that if using your own box. Also - Tony S mentioned a good point - this is what our company refers to as electrical derrangement - ie TV looks undamaged, but doesn't work. You can also get this insurance separate from the normal cover for this.

Re: Transporting TV's in containers
Thanks for all the info peeps
We are looking at buying a new panasonic viera 42" hd plasma for 675 quid (much cheaper than over there). Do you reckon we will be alright totake it out of its box , untangle the leads etc then repack it? Will they question it? Could put a few deliberate scratches on the back of the tv i suppose to make it look 'used' - any thoughts/anyone done similar and did you have any problemos??
Thanks again

Hi Sam,
We took our LCD's over in some original boxes with foam inserts and they made the others, they wrapped them in so much paper and cardboard they wouldnt move, they were quick too. They were gonna make a crate but as insured i said no as £80... checked with insurance and they will pay as long as professionally packed.
Mr Mover right about the serial numbers. just check when the model was made and as long as over 12mths you'll be ok. Simons had his PS3 for ages but cos it was under 12mths old having to take it in his handluggage! cos we would've been charged tax on it by AQIS. (remember the motorbike senario)
