Default Transit stops - can we get off plane?

We are flying out to Melbourne next week for our holiday/recce and have a 2 hour transit stop in Hong kong. Do they usually let you off the plane when its a farily short stop and if they do where can you go?
I've just read another read another thread about Singapore and shower facilties, does anyone know if they have anything like at Hong Kong?

Hi, I don't think you will have enough time to shower and have a proper wash. They normally let you off the plane but 2 hrs ain't that long by the time you have got out of the plane gone to the terminal shops, it would be time to come back and re board the plane.

Yes, you will be allowed off the plane, in fact they encourage it, as the cleaners usually come on board during this time. The 2 hour transit stop will be more realistically about 1 hour 15 - 1 hour 30, by the time you get off the aircraft and have a quick wander around as they usually ask you to be back at the gate 30 minutes before departure. You will be allowed in the transit area only, which usually has loads of shops, duty free, etc, etc.

Have a good flight.

Yes, I'm afraid you're probably right, I was just looking at the Hong Kong ariport website and the place is massive! I'd be worried that we would not get back in time! Arrgghh, just imagine!
So, looks like it will have to a quick spray of deodorant in the toilets then!

PS
Do you have to take all your stuff with you (hand luggage, magazines, books etc)?

No, you don't have to take everything with you, but if you leave things like magazines, etc, put them in your bag in the luggage compartment as the cleaners will probably nick them if you leave them lying around, and of course, I would advise to take anything of valuable off with you, and don't forget to take your passport and boarding pass with you as you will need these to reboard.

Thanks Sassie for advice
I'm very excited, never flown further than Crete before so this will be a very different experience. Bet I won't be so excited about the return flight!

It is compulsory to get off the plane I believe because they don't like people being on board while they refule in case it all goes wrong Reboarding generally starts about an hour before the plane is due to fly off again so you won't have long to wait anyway by the time you have got off and gone through security etc.

I don't get about as much as I would like

Kangaroo Island is great, beware of the unsealed roads though they are a car killer

Don't need to worry about the car as we've booked a 4WD safari so we shall leave our hire car at Cape Jervis. The hire car company had already warned us about the roads on KI!

As everyone has said you will only be allowed to move around in the airside part of the terminal. You would have checked your baggage through to Melbourne so that means you can't enter Hong Kong from the airport. HK has two terminals now but that said each is easy to get around. One hour will be enough to get a meal (they serve quick here) and a sh*t, shower and shave. If you have more time you could probably browse some shops too.

One day before you! We are flying out on the 25th at 12.20hrs, then arriving at 20.00hrs on the 26th, sounds like a very long time, doesn't it?
Are you holidaying or on the final move?
