Default Transfers from Melbourne Airport to CBD

Can anyone offer any advice on best option for transfers from Melbourne Airport to CBD (Travelodge - Southbank)?

The Skybus is $50 return for a family ticket, looks like it goes to centre and then you pick up a smaller bus to hotel. Has anyone used these?

Anyone know how much a taxi is likely to cost?

Suppose the other option is a specialist company that deals in transfers, proced up throught the travel agents who we booked holiday through (Austravel) and they wanted £26 one way!

Cheers,
WW

My OH used the skybus recently when friends arrived from Sydney and said it was excellent. Runs regularly and it was a quick journey.

....a cab is about $50-$55 each way including the tolls so £26 would be about right (assuming the £26 was for all of you).

The Skybus is excellent although can be very busy at times. If you are getting straight off a long flight I personally would prefer a cab and not the additional hassle of changing buses etc.

Thanks for the info, we will be flying in from Port Douglas.

The skybus doesn't look like bad value then.

When we fly in from the UK we take the Skybus. It takes you right into Southern Cross station from Melbourne airport (Tullamarine) and we changed buses there for the one that took us to the hotel.

We bought the Skybus ticket at the airport and there was no hassle at all.

Regards,
Karen
