You might get more response on the immigration forum so try posting on there as well, but hubbie is a printer, got a declaration done from his director and did a self dec as well, agent dealt with all the boring stuff, he has only worked for one firm all his life (bless) so it was quite easy for us and his firm are really good about his applying so he had no worries asking his company, probably think he won't leave in the end, or perhaps they want him to !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sent it off in May and got it back fastracked about 7 weeks later.

Good Luck. :)

Hi Matty
we have just been successful passed by the TRA, hubby is a plasterer, had to send in lots of references, copies of his accounts, a stat dec to say why he was self employed etc., quite easy but the waiting was a bit of a nightmare! our agent lodged it all on June 24th, had acknowledgment on July 23rd and came back postive on the 16th September! nearly ready to lodge everything for the big one!
best regards

Hi Matty
i think you may be a bit confused! as far as I know the TRA don't come over to see you? well they didn't my hubby! he just had to get references from as many people he has worked for since leaving school! he also had to have all these references on letterheaded paper, his accounts he had to get from previous accountants, his stat dec. was done because he has no proper qualifications, he learnt his trade on site. Never did he have anyone visit him to watch what he does, he just had to write it all out in detail then along with all the references etc., he sent them off (a pile of paperwork) to our agent who then forwarded it all to the TRA in Australia!
how long have you been a carpet fitter? are you not using an agent?

To my knowledge they don't hot foot it over here to watch you work!!!:D
I did mine 2 years ago, and as a self employed person it was tricky, but not too much of a problem. You can download the forms from here www.immi.gov.au and they basically tell you, step by step, what to include and how much info they require etc. Good luck with it all.:)

hello again
ive been a carpet fitter for 14 years and worked for lots of differant companies and have been using an agent in london called overseas emigration and they said i have 2 options i have two get as many refrances as possible to give the tra but if the wasn't enough info they would also be able to come and assess me aswell but that would then be alot more expensive

If you have been a fitter for 14 years and have an agent i don't see that you would need the TRA to come to assess you, any companies that you have worked for that are no longer in existance then they would be added to you stat dec. stating when you worked for them and why you cannot supply a reference,
best of luck with it

hello matt

Im a self employed electrician and because of that i had to send alot more info than if i was employed
i sent in all my accounts, letters from customers, wholesalers,
certificates etc there were 100s of sheets all of which had to be signed by a solicitor
I also paid a bit extra to have mine fast tracked because my 35th birthday was looming and 5 points lost
$500 dollars for the assessment plus the agents fees which i cant remember at the moment but thier help was much appreciated
i heard back really quickly about 10 days

cheers
mark

Hi Matt,

We too have gone with OE. They said to us too that there might be the possibility of having to have the Aussie guy come over to assess my fellas work too, but we have been passed to Tony Coates ( based at Cork, Ireland ) as he is a specialist in recognition of prior learning and he sorted it out for us. We have also had a guy in Perth, Au, to help us with getting the TRA references and form drafted etc. This has all been inclusive of OE's fees. Wait and see what they say before you panic too much. We thought " oh my god " it's going to cost us a packet ontop of OE's fees but it's been fine.
