Default Toy Shops in Brisbane

My boy turns 10 a couple of days after we get to Brisbane in January. Can anybody recommend any good toy shops in the city centre? I'm going to have to get his present the day after arriving.

Oddly enough no. I can't htink of any good toy shops in the CBD. You could try Myer which has got a limited range and there's a place near the top of Queen Street called Toyworld but I wouldn't describe it as good.

Yellow Pages comes up with only three toy shops:

Agree with jayr, not a great choice in the city itself, Myers & Toyworld are probably the best. Toyworld have some much better stores out in the suburbs, other places in the suburbs are Toys'R'Us, Mr Toys (related to, but NOT the same as Toyworld) as well as the usual suspects like Kmart, Big W & Target.

There are Big W & Target in the city, but Im not sure if they have a decent (or in fact any) toysection.

Thats weird, I noticed it when I've been looking for decent toys for Christmas presents (though fortunately my sisters tribe are happy with souvenir type pressies). I'm used to being able to pop in to the Early Learning Centre for example, or little independent toy shops for "something different" but here the choice of toys is sadly lacking for that kind of thing.

I find that K-Mart, Target, Big W all seem to have a good range of toys, especially at Christmas time.

But then again, I never bought toys in the UK, so maybe I dont know what I am missing

Fortunately, neither does my daughter She seems happy with everything she gets.

This year its a patio size swimming pool, 12 foot round, $149.00 from KMart, it will keep her cool until we get a proper one put in.

ABC, it definitely depends on which store you go to! Some stores have a much MUCH better range than others (Im talking about different Kmarts, different BigWs etc), some are pretty appalling, especialy some Kmarts. Big W generally seems to have a better range overall.

Yes, I suppose I am more used to the ones in Sydney region, but up here I go to Capalaba mainly. Although todays local paper has said that Victoria Point will have a KMart opening in November 2004. Expansion here is really going ahead, just had our 2nd Woolworths open last week.

Capalaba Target & Big W are actually pretty good, so you are pretty right there! Kmart there is better than the one at Wynnum West for toys which is where I usually shop.

Thanks for all your replies. We're not hiring a car till the afternoon before his birthday so it looks like I'll have to get something here, and bring it along with all our other stuff.

Have to be something small then!
