Just two doctor vacancies? There's an ad on the earlier link for a O&G specialist, applications closing next week. Hmmmm

Default Mission Beach & Dunk Island

We went up to Mission Beach this weekend. It is 2.5 hrs drive north of Townsville. On the way up stopped briefly at Port Hinchinbrook. We took a day trip to Dunk Island which is 10 mins from Mission via small boat. We stayed at Castaways in one of their 2-bedroom apartments which to be honest could have been cleaner but was spacious & right on the beach. Nice pool & restaurant with very generous glasses of Sauvignon Blanc!

Dunk is lovely, though we didn't get to travel beyond the beach that we landed at. The kids had a great time swimming & kayaking and the water was just perfect.

Hi, Great photos again. We are still thinking about returning to north QLD (posted earlier and drdan gave good advice!!) but healthworkforceqld who can help with jobs etc dont recruit GPs to Townsville (dont know why-possibly no need as bigger town). They do cover Cairns and as I worked in qld in 1998 and was registered by the medical board then apparently there arent any medicare restrictions to my place of work!!
Are there any GP jobs in Townsville that you know of? Or what is Cairns like to work in?

Hey there - I'm meeting with the GP Liason Officer tomorrow. I'll ask her what the situation is like locally. Haven't been or heard much about Cairns yet.

Cheers,
Danny

Question Re: Townsville: Some more pics

thanks drdan-were still undecided what to do/where to go.stay in kent/move back to townsville/try cairns.your photos make me more confused!!
As a Gp i thought there are lots of jobs but doesnt seem so.cairns have 3 advertised with healthworkforce but a bit of an unknown place to live (only stayed for holidays etc) .Going with a agency etc seems the easier option as they would help organise things etc , and im sure it would be quicker.
Have you gone for PR or TR?.I have been advised PR apporx 9months, TR 3-6. No real hurry as i have to give 6months notice in my partnership and yet havent even given inkling to anyone at wor or home (execpt OH of course!!).

Hi,

Thank you for your many pictures. My OH and I are heading to Townsville at the beginning of August and have already planned trips away based on your pictures/suggestions. Just out of curiosity - what type of camera do you use?

Looking at your pictures has just made me realise how long it has been since my last trip over to Dunk and we live in Mission Beach They have moved all the pub from the beach front after Larry which looks really strange to me now. I must go over for a beer very soon

As for you Doctors come here as we have a major doctor shortage at the moment. Cardwell medical centre is closing down due to retirement of the doc. Tully has closed down but they have kept the Mission Beach medical centre open due to one of the partners leaving the area. WE NEED GP's

The earlier photos on this thread were taken with a Canon 5D dSLR and the Mission Beach/Dunk ones with a Sigma DP1 compact. Editing with Adobe Photoshop. This was my first outing with the DP1 which I got last week, and I think I'm going to like it a lot, though it is does require more work to get good images.

Hi Clare,

I spoke with one of the GP's this morning. There are lots of GP vacancies in Townsville. I'll PM you details of who to contact. A good site to look through is the Townsville GP network. It has a details about the practices & what is happening in general. There are other places with openings apart from the ones advertised there.
http://www.tdgp.com.au/

We came over on a 457 visa for speed of entry and are in the process of applying for PR. If you have a provider number all the better, but you can find out if a given postcode is identified as a district of workforce shortage here. We could go down the Returning Residents Visa pathway too, as I lived in Adelaide from age 3 to 16, but it's a bit more hassle. Kicking ourselves for not taking out citizenship before going back to the UK...

Let me know how it goes.
