Total cost of moving

Hi all
We've started the process - just having myself vetassessed as we speak. I am using a migration agent (total will be about £1800). There is possible 4 of us going me, my partner and my 2 sons (12 and 18 - 18 yr old may be coming). Have you any rough idea what the total will be taking into account -
  • the price of migration agent
  • Vetassess
  • Visa
  • Medicals/xrays/hiv
  • Police checks
  • Shipping
  • Possibility of taking the cat
  • Flights
  • Hire car for approx 2 weeks
  • Certification on any certificates eg my PGCE and degree - can one of my teacher colleagues certificate my certs???
  • Anything else I have missed out which is VERY likely

Phew I think i'm gonna rob a bank - mind you not a good idea seeing as they have no money either and us good old tax payers are probably going to be bailing them out!!!!
Thanks
Emz

Dread to think Emz. We've only just been appointed a case officer (I think) and have already forked out a fortune. I was just wondering if it would be an idea to put where you are moving to as there may be different financial implications for the area you are moving to ie, car hire, temporary accomodation on arrival more expensive in Perth than, say, Adelaide. Also, cost of flights would be different. Just a thought, and good luck with everything.

Re: Total cost of moving

Accomodation on arrival, holiday let etc for your first couple of weeks - an essential cost.
Police checks are cheapest bit!!!

You are talking several thousands of pounds for all of it.

God its depressing looking at that! We're looking at Brisbane but as LorrieLou said it all depends where you go and when you go.

But its just a "guestimate" from my experience - Oh and we're travelling as 2 adults one baby.

Deposit on a rental house when you arrive, plus cost of temporary accom. (like katsmajic said). Remember the insurance on the shipping too (that can be a real chunk of cost), and travel insurance for the flights out.

Cheers
b (who is not from Cheltenham :))

Hi we have just added it up as we have a family from london staying with us for their first mth in oz. Mum dad & 2 kids they have a dog that arrives tomorrow. They are just over 15000gbp but dog was 4000gbp & they have got 3000gbp in shipping, 4 weeks accommodation 1600gbp. Then the visa, meds, flights ect. Dont want to make it worse but then you need to get long term rental, car, furnish your house, school uniforms, school books ect, without getting an income. Scary but worth every penny

Re: Total cost of moving

Flippppppin eck - have any of you done this with not many savings in the bank (mmmmm like I will be doing)- I think I cringe when I say that:o.

Arghhhh i'm also thinking what have I got myself into - I wasnt totally stupid - I had an idea - but if I dont do it now then i'll probably never do it. I have a house that I will try and sell - but that is doubtful we only bought it over a year ago - so instantly were losing money - oh well its only money - i'm cringing again :o.

Anyhow I dont want to give up - I dont know about anybody else out there but I have had times when i've had no food in the cupboards - now I have a nice house, nice car etc and i'm wanting to change it - WHY!!!!!! There is something insode my head (where i'm sure other people think the same) where I need to follow this through because it is for some reason a NEED (by the eck i'm waffling).

I WILL do this because I WANT to change as I guess some of you think like that. I want to try out what life has to offer. Anyhow I also think that even though I have 2 kids and 2 serious relationships - I never married and never paid any extorionate fees for getting married - I will just pay that money to the Australian Government instead!!!! What are other people's feelings like on this matter???????

[QUOTE=Capt Emz I Think;6860275]Flippppppin eck - have any of you done this with not many savings in the bank [QUOTE]

Havent done it yet - but hopefully will be! Im going on a work nominated visa so will have a job when land but i dont have any equity to take with me. Currently i rent an appartment, dont have a car, nor any possessions to sell - the most i'll be able to muster together is around £2,000 perhaps £2,500 if i get a loan!!

Im sure it will all work out ok! - it'd be fun living on a tight budget - adds to the spirit and adventure!

BUT i am going solo, so there's just me. If i had kids id defo be sensible and make sure that i had enough money to keep me/them going for a few/several/lots of months, and then probably times that by 2 cause you need a safety net with kids involved...(ive never had kids but i hear ppl moaning all the time about how expensive they are!!).

 cheers to all who are traveling on a pepercorn!! (my agent used the word pepercorn and i kinda like it!)

Yeh i'm sure it will work out for you, things ALWAYS work out in the end - I think you've got to have a certain type of personality to get up and go and thats what we are doing. Life is an adventure and not a rehearsal - something what me and my late mum always used to say to each other- plus my mum always wanted to go to Oz - her sister lives there - so i'm gonna do what my mum never got a chance too!!!

Good luck to you all on this adventure:thumbsup:

Oi Capt Emz

I'm having a look into schools here for ya, my gut feeling is that you may be in High Schools etc... Martin doesnt need to worry though, there is sh*t loads of work here even if he doesnt want to weld.
So why dont you put your feet up and let Martin work, he will enjoy the laid back attitude anyway. You wont need to work!! Just hang out with Lisa

Hey Martin trust me - it aint like workin back home !!! Different world mate.
