Default total cost of migration

hi all
I am just curious to get some estimates of how much it costs to migrate to oz. i am about to start the process so this info would be helpful. Costs would include skills assessments, visa, container charges, medicals, police checks, flights, bond monies (skilled sponsored or capitol bond), agents fees etc.

Cheers

Visa was 650ish

Same as this but $5000 aos bond
£1700 early mortgage redemption (if we ever sell it that is!)
£5600 in solicitors and estate agent fees (see above)
£3500 shipping
£1400 flights

And there is no value high enough to put on the stress levels

We tallied up and by the time we paid application fees, meds, early mortgage redempt, paid any negative equity off on the car finance when sold, estate agent fees, solicitors fees, credit cards, shipping and flights we'll be lucky to have change from 15k .......... But its worth every penny

I did a brief tally! Wish I hadn't

Anyway this is the overall costs, I including buying and selling cause we were only in our house in the UK for two years and would not have been moving if we hadn't moved to AUS.

We kept the house on for a year after we first moved, to be sure we got PR and to make sure we were staying. We didn't rent out cause we didn't know the time frame of what might happen. Obviously this added to our costs. But you could also argue the extra 12,000 we spent on mortage was not a real cost because the house gained in value in that period - approximately the 12K.

We sold an endowment policy to pay for all this and my company paid me 10K towards costs like relocation flights and house moving costs.

Some of the biggest expenses that have depleted the savings we had are buying and selling items we already had, like white goods and cars and motorbikes. Everything else we bought over. Husband did not get a job for five months and my salary is obviously lower here.

Mortgage for a year till we sold 12,000
Estate Agents Fees etc 4,600
Solictitors 1,000
Financial Advice on Pensions etc 1,500
Relocation, flights, house 8,000
Migration agent 2,000
Visa Fees including medical etc 1,000
Buying White Goods 2,500
Buying AUS house $40K approx 16,000

48,600

£.p?

These are your expenses. Add in lost income, if any, and the result would be double your expenses?

Anyone's guess about lost or gain of future income, savings, capital gain etc.

Whoops Sorry all in pounds, total cost.

Approximate lost income, that one is hard, because of the usual cost of living comparisons that are done, my company said they gave me a comparable income x 1.8, eg 10 GBP = 18 AUS. But I do seem to have less disposable income here. On husband side, he is on much less than that comparison now possibly 1.3 after working for a year and no income for initial 5 months.

We used all our savings and some capital from the UK house. We are getting back on our feet now and the pot is growing. We have a nice house (expensive but nice, with a pool we have not used yet ), one car not two, no motorbike yet! These are some of the basic facts for us as a family in Sydney and how we are living our choices. No plans to move in the near future.

Cheers
