Hi all

Need your help folks.

I'm after some suggestions for real top quality Melbourne restaurants. Real romantic no expense spared type of places. They need to be pretty central or though we may be willing to travel a little way. If you could give the name and location and type of food served it would be much apprecited.

pretty useless I know but, we went to a fantastic tibetan restaurant in the city centre and I can't for the life of me remember what it was called.
Also, there was a really nice malaysian called Nonyas on Lygon St and a funky bar/restaurant in Clifton Hill called Mosskito where the portions were HUUGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEE.

My brother keeps raving about Ezard (http://www.ezard.com.au/) which serves "modern Australian" and has won a load of awards. As soon as we get over there I guess we will have to take him there as he is going to be my sponsor .

Jacques reymond in South Yarra is wonderful, bloody expensive but worth it! It's French and very posh so definitly for a special occasion!!

I have been reliably informed that the Red Emperior on the Southbank is excellent - defo a no expense spared one though so be prepared to dig deep but my sister who lives in Melbourne reckons it's well worth it. Try this website: http://melbourne.citysearch.com.au

We recently went to Melbourne for the first time and ate at 3 awesome restaurants.

The first was Becco, nice intimate romantic italian place in the city but quite buzzy too, great food (2 hats in The Age food guide).

The next night we went to Interlude on Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. Again had a fantastic meal (6 course degustation menu fo $75). It was the best meal with have had since we arrived in Oz 5 months ago. Service was fantastic too.

Finally we went to Ezard at the Adelphi, reputed to be the best restaurant in Melbourne (3 hats in the Age food Guide). It was a very interesting meal, really different to any other asian inspired food i have ever had, and probably not to everyone's taste. Also the tables are really close together so not the best place for a private conversation.

As you can probably tell, i like my food and left Melbourne a few pounds heavier and a few dollars poorer!

My vote goes to Interlude for food, Becco for buzz and Ezard just to say you've been!

Try Cecconi or Koko at the Crown Casino, centrally located - 5 minutes' walk from South Bank, lovely river view.

Cecconi - Italian - excellent food and wine list, and oh, very very expensive. Most people do dress up for the place.

Koko - Japanese teppanyaki - watch the chef cook your favourite steak/seafood in front of you. The deep-fried ice-cream for dessert is a must.

Melbourne's top restaurant year after year, according to the respected authority of The Age 'Good Food Guide' is Flower Drum (Chinese cuisine). I recommended it to the gals in the thread on the drinking girls club as a possible venue.

It's very olde worlde but I can thoroughly recommend, through personal experience, The Windsor Hotel:

It's definitely olde-worlde, too much so for me. Also the rooms at the lower end of the scale had no windows! We stayed in 2 rooms over a 3 day break as the plumbing failed in the first one. The rooms can be quite a trek as it's a sprawling hotel.

What I can recommmend is the Supper Club, a wine bar just a couple of hundred yards away. It's really quite hidden away , up a flight of stairs and is a bit difficult to find but well worth a visit.
