Hi

I downloaded the maps from the Tom Tom website. Cost 99 euros. All that was needed was to put a SD card into the computer and the maps were downloaded. Easy peasy.

Hope that helps

Janet

Hi

You can buy the Australia map from www.tomtom.com
You need a SD card to download the map onto and pay online and then away you go.

Hope that helps.

Maybe Tom Tom don't want the Oz map in the sale. I downloaded it off their website on June 9th and paid Au$329!!! Thought I was getting myself a bargain when I picked up the latest Tom Tom One including Western Europe maps duty free at Heathrow for GBP160 thinking the maps were about GBP50. Turns out the map cost me nearly as much as the unit, could have saved my self +Au$200 buying it locally with Oz maps............Doooohhhhh!!!

Well after 4 hours of trying to find somewhere that would sell me a map I decided to torrent a map and installed it on my tom tom, and it seems to be okay, my tom tom is recognising it.

Never been a fan of Tom Tom (my dad has tom tom one)

BUT

After hearing of the adventures of freinds using sat nav down lanes etc "out back" and the wonders seen, and I too have tried to drive Brisbane! so im very tempted to do some shopping before I leave.

so Sat Nav dedicated OR PDA is the question..... users out there your advice please.

Don't got for a PDA - they are a pain (crashing, screen savers etc). Go for a dedicated system.

Tom Tom used to sell the Australia maps in Europe, but they were 199 euros (£135). Add a TomTom one on top and you're looking at £285 + an SD card.

Instead, buy a Navman F20 from Ebuyer (£120) and download the Australia map for that for £50. £115 in the pocket.

Or download the map as stated earlier.

Hi,

We bought a PDA when we arrived with NAVMAN on it (cost $998.00). Uses a stick to touch screen, but always a bit slow on finding GPS signal. Had it for about 6 months and battery died, sent to NAVMAN at Ryde for replacement (not particularly helpful people). Never sync'd very well with computer and considering we bought it in 2004 it never had the road updates on it and you have to pay for all map updates ($100). Just recently upgraded to Navman N40i, from Ryda.com (cheapest place) and it is far superior, telling you where to find petrol stations, shows all the parks by name so you can easily find soccer fields !!!!! :thumbup:And has a camera so if you need to find your way back to your campsite, just take a photo of it before you leave and it will take you back to it - brilliant stuff. Much easier to use and maps pre-loaded when you buy unlike the PDA where you have to load it all yourselves (not that easy). So go for the dedicated Navman's, they are cheaper too! (much nicer voices too!!)
:D
