Thanx for this ScuntoBris Helps us to understand UK equivelent. Although the prices you quote are :scared:

If I have understood correctly the UK equivelant is as follows; [based on exc rate 2.4 AUD to £]

8pk loo rolls - £2.14
4 fresh skinless chicken breasts - £4.58
2litres milk - £1.15
4kg Spuds - £2.05
250g Salad Cream - £0.83p
Cucumber - £1.18
Bagged lettuce 400g - £1.65
Coke 2l - £0.70p
Mince Beef 672g - £1.10
Red Onions - £1.66 per kilo
Capsicum - £2.07 per kilo
Peaches - £2.90 per kilo
Mandarins - £2.07 per kilo
Tomatoes - £2.03 per kilo

CRIKEY..these prices are :scared: compared to UK. And apparently salaries in Oz not as good as UK

Spend ave £120 pw in UK. Will need a bank loan to feed ourselves in Oz

Wot do wij....widge.....widditty .........oh bugger..wot do those grubby thinggy things taste like???

Do you guys live in some sort of time warp? I find everything here less expensive. I'm comparing Manchester to Brisbane.

Mike.

You cant just convert $ T0 £ and get an accurate measure of the cost of living in aus , You live in aus you earn Aussie doller, you live in the uk your earn £, if this was the case i would be looking at buying a $500,000 house to replace the one i'v sold in the UK.

An accurate measure is/was not intended. Indeed more of a best guess /guestimate if you like

Interesting economic analogy fishyben!

I reckon I could trim that bill by 25% to 50% !!, But I won't tell you where, as you said not to !!

So, for the info of others

Woolworths is good, convenient, plenty of choice (by OZ standards), and similar to Coles, BiLo etc.

The smaller shops are often worth checking.
eg: I get 2 litres of milk and a sliced loaf for $2.80.
and 5kg potatoes for $2.49

Take a look at cost of living calculators on www.movingdownunder.co.uk/files/finance.php

It matters not what it costs in £s or $s we find it more expensive to live here. (Perth)

All that that calculator does is divide the figure you enter by 136 ?

How do you arrive at that figure of 136 ?

It was a bit confusing, as , if you enter 1000 UK pounds earnings in the UK, it says you must earn 735 UK pounds in Australia. It doesn't say how many dollars.

You have far too much time on your hands! Get that plan of yours off the ground

Convenience shopping and would say that Woolworths is comparable with shopping at somewhere like Tesco, Asda, etc, not Kwik Save, Aldi, Netto, Lidl and the like.

We've also got an ALDI opening here soon, so that will be bringing prices down in our area.

You are right about time on my hands. Problem is that I get so many ideas, I forget what I am doing !!! Now, where was I ? and what did I tell you I was doing
