Default tip: A$ into £s in your head

If you need to convert A$s into £s without resorting to a calculator, the rate at the moment (and for the past few months) lets you do this, and get a reasonably close answer with some very simple maths.

Starting with the A$ figure,

1) divide by 10
2) double it
3) double it

$150 -> 15 -> 30 -> 60.

$150 (@ 0.41 pence/$) = £61.50

Tomorrow's tip is converting pints into litres using quadratic equations.

Or (and the same numerically) it's 40%, so multiply by 4 (this is usually trivial to do in the head) and knock off the last figure (ie. divide by 10). In your example

4*15 = 60

It was a lot harder when it was 0.35.

Also, a close approximation when in Oz to convert your speed or distance from Km to miles:

Divide KM by three then multiply by two

So 90Km/hr speed limit is approximately 90/3 =30 * 2 = 60 Mph
(against the actual 56.25 Mph)

Or a simple way to convert time from the UK to OZ:

Take UK time - 20 years = Oz Time!

Yeah, what is this year round entertainment of which you speak? By time I get at up at 6am, spend a full day at work, get home around 6:30, see kids off to bed by 19:30, have 2.5hrs left before too tired to stay awake and do it all again next day. I'll grant you it's warm enough to go out at the weekend if that's what you mean by year round entertainment.

How come? Haven't noticed you post all that much?

Perhaps a course of vitamins or chicken livers?
