Timing of removals

We have a question regarding the timing of removals.
At the moment we are about to put the house up for sale, but are wondering how far in advance you need to organise the removal company.
As we understand it, it will take 6 to 8 weeks for our furniture to arrive in Brisbane from leaving the UK, after which point we might have to store the furniture until we find somewhere to rent.
As we haven’t got our PR visa yet we will have to move in with Annie’s parents until it arrives (presuming we don’t get it before we move out of our house).
Can anyone with experience give us an indication of whether the removals need to be booked way in advance or if they accept say 2 weeks notice.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Paul Annie & Jack,

Its probably better sooner rather than later as any quotes should be garaunteed for the future, providing you sign up to their quote. It will also give you less to do nearer the time.

There is other info started by Paddy on this forum that might be of some use

Re: Timing of removals

Hi Kango-jack

hmmm, it's the million dollar question isn't it? We've been told by our shipping company that it could be as quick as 6-8 weeks or as long as 12-16 weeks depending on loads of different factors..ie: weather, wars, how quick the captain wants to get there ;)) etc.

We've decided to pack everything and ship it out at the end of August/beg September and hoping it'll all turn up at the beginning of October (which, hopefully will see us sorted out with a house rental etc)...but who knows...we could be camping out for weeks without stuff or it could arrive before we've even got somewhere to put it....also I understand it can take a while to be processed by Australian customs so that will add to the timeframe.

Sorry, not being much help am I?...we're in the middle of all this stuff at the moment and it's a real headache....would appreciate anyone who has already been through this to give their stories and timescales????anyone????

love sophia xx
