Time to retrieve those £20 notes from under your mattress
The Bank of England has announced plans to withdraw from circulation banknotes carrying the portrait of Sir Edward Elgar. All £20 notes in future will be emblazoned with Adam Smith instead.
Smith began to replace Elgar on the notes in 2007, with the two formats running concurrently, but the Bank said yesterday that notes with the composer’s face on them would no longer be legal tender from July 1.

Kids got pocket money in UK 60 quid is in these old notes.
I have no idea how we will get rid of them prior to july. Not going to UK dont really want to cash them into aussie bucks as they buy so much more in UK.
Wonder if aussie banks will switch them, some chance I imagine

Even though you cannot use "old" notes as legal tender in shops etc, there is no problem switching them at a bank. (My former neighbour wrote to me at Christmas how her very old MIL had died and they found lots of "old" $5 notes in the house. They had no problem taking them to a bank and getting them exchanged.)

I'll be there and passing through Sydney, Canberra, and the NSW south coast in April if anyone wants to arrange with me to swap for the new notes.
