Mrs B is working over next few Saturdays, trying to get some extra cash as were going to Perth for a week in July.

If you can make it out East Janine on the Friday or Saturday before you leave I'll get Johanne round for a few wines, she just lives round the corner from me.

Hi Bordy,

That sounds fantastic, it would be really nice to meet you and Johanne. Just let us know which date suits you guys best and we will be there with bells on. Maybe give me your number and I'll call when we are there for directions.

How exciting!
See you soon
Janine

No one is expected to go anywhere, people can choose where they want to go can they not??

I am not trying to upset you but fairness has nothing to do with it, people can surely decide for themselves where, when and if they want to go to a meet.

Our weekends are taken up with ferrying the kids to interschool stuff, my football matches, renovating, shopping etc due to us both working. we also try to fit in some quality time with our family and friends, therefore i choose to go to the meets that are close by so i can catch up with people i havn't seen for a while due to all of the above.

Its not due to the fact that i do not wish to see anymore of Melbourne, (jokes aside) (I'm actually enjoying being home after the last few months of travelling round everywhere actually) Its just more due to the fact that i arrange to do things out and about with friends etc when we all have spare time etc and i guess i would rather do this than try to fit something else in really.

Sorry to anyone reading that last bit who thinks i'm mean, but thats just the way things evolve when you've been here a while and begin to feel settled again i guess:)

Fair enough Hevs. I do understand where you (and Matt) are coming from.
As I tried to explain to Matt, my comments were aimed to be general, and not pointed to either of you specifically.

Anya and I put up a thread proposing a west side meet (which disappeared rather quickly!) for the very reasons Matt talked about - being busy at the weekends ourselves means that it would be nice if there was a meet either in the west or maybe in the CBD area (central for more?), so that those people who lived over this way could come and say hello to other people without having to take the whole day out (or make a day of it, whatever)- I often have to work at least one day at the weekend, and so having the opportunity to pop over somewhere for a couple of hours, say hi, would then still give time to do other things would be great.
I suppose we are at the opposite end of the scale to yourselves in that we are trying to settle down, go to different places - and meet people as well - with limited time it doesn't always tally up does it! :)

Of course people can choose if and when they want to go to a meet - all I'm saying is that if there was some variation, then if you cannot go to one, there would be the oppotunity to go to another which is a bit more easy to get to.

Its all about me me me!!!:D

I didn't mean to imply that the comments were aimed at me, i just gave my reasons for the meets nearer (to us) being easier to get to.

I also think the S/E ones are well attended cos theres a lot of people over this side, as far north as Croydon and through to Beaconsfield and down to Mornington. Whilst people want to meet up its also very busy starting the new life up once work sets in. Also for those of us with kids and their social calendars it can become a logistical nightmare.

Anyway, for those new to this, please go along its a great way to make some friends and its not scary really:D:D

Was agreeing with your point of view................Ok, from my perspective rather than yours, but agreeing nonetheless :D

Must admit this is a fairly balanced thread with an equal point of view, however......

I just cant be arsed to travel over to Williamstown on the weekend, I spend all week as it is working there.... I'd much rather see some of the place where I live and the friends round about for at least two days of the week.

Go Gagdet Go !!! diddle diddle de de .......

I can see where some ofthe previous posters are coming from but I have to agree with Hevs in as much as once you start work your wkds become very precious and I for one would rather spend it with friends doing things that we all enjoy rather than treking across Melbourne to meet people that we have very little in common with and are unlikely to see again for a while. We met all of our friends here from the expats sites but the ones we have most in common with are the ones that live witin a sensible travelling distance.

Also once you have taken your household chores out of the wkd there really isn't much time left and never long enough to see or do what you'd like.

Cas,

I tend to agree with your point of view on this.

In my opinion, its not like the meets are every weekend. The last meet main meet we had was back in January. I think its nice that once in a while we have a main meet so that people that have just arrived and not met people can meet people from all over Melbourne and can talk to them about the different areas and get a feel for other places.

I dont think once every 6 months would be too much to ask for people to make an effort to travel out of their areas for a meet so its easier for some others. Hell, we come down to Melbourne from Bendigo just so we can meet up with people. We cant do that all the time, and wouldnt expect anyone else to, but just once every 6 months or so isnt a major issue.

Just my 20 cents worth....

Re: Is it time 4 another Melbourne meet !!!

Its a matter for a majority or a concensus decision. If a meet happens then it happens, if people can't make it they can't make it. Simple.

But by the looks of things there are very few "newbies" looking to attend.

This is just going round in circles though. If someone wants to organises a meet propose a date, location etc and see who can attend.

I have no problem with Williamstown whatsoever. I just won't be attending the meet there for the reason I stated.

Hevs and HUP have been a fair few places.

I don't go anywhere which is classed as "lovely". (in joke)

I am too anti-rose tinted to fall for that one. :D

And I'm pissed too trying tö "get over" the trials of work. So who cares.
