Tiawamutu's House Build

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build
We have the same white pipes and they are for e-wire to the mains box, retic mains computer and electrical to the meter box but they are outside our garage wall not the main bedroom.
Do they not tell you on the plans?

Went up this evening (bit later than usual) to look at the new rental just up the road, and didn't expect to see anything, but they have delivered our window and door frames! and what looks like the electric/metre box
That must mean the bricks will be coming soon, as I can't see them leaving window frames lying around for too long

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build
The big concrete pipes are soak wells. They take the rainwater from your gutters and diffuse it into the surrounding sand. Make sure they haven't put one bang in the middle of where you want your pool to be cos It'll have to be dug back out and repositioned. This happens all the time & they're a bugger to move!
Spoke to the man who was watching the other man dig the hole , and he said they had been at ours, and next door's plot all day. He said it had took that long because our land was all rock! (limestone to be exact!) So there goes our chances of a pool
Looks like it's a spa for us then! Sorry Scossie
Least the house is on solid ground!
We had another issue also with the prestart details. We thought we would go into a paint shop, as we noticed it sold Solver brand paints (the type they are using on our render/drain pipes/gutter etc) We thought we'd have a look at the colours we'd chosen. Nearly died when I noticed that the colour we had down for the render was cream, and we'd wanted grey!
These pre selection forms are used as a list from which they order all the stuff, and we nearly ended the wrong colour house! It costs $350 to change things on the list once they have been confirmed, but the lovely builder has said he will just inform the painters before they start.
Let this be a warning to anyone building. Check everything on the list, as the slightest mistake, and it could end up a disaster! I did check ours thoroughly, and even had bookmarked all the websites of the different products as a reference, but this manage to go unnoticed.
I know what they meant now, when they said building was stressful...and this is only the start!

Believe it or not it's actually easier to build a pool dug out from limestone as you don't get sand caving in all the time while you're forming the shape of the pool.
So there you go! Never mind the spa....
Go for the pool.....

Solid limestone isn't a problem. It just needs to be dug out by a mini excavator rather than a bobcat. More expensive but it still gets dug in one day. We're doing one in Ocean Reef at the moment which was solid limestone all the way down.

There's still the problem of the soak well possibly being in the wrong place

You can then either relocate it in a new place, (Get the excavator to dig a new hole while he's there) or ditch it altogether and replace it with porous underground pipes coming from your downpipes.
The second option is what most people do.

It'll just be pulled out by the excavator when he's taking out all the rock.

Once the concrete pool shell is in the ground there is a 150mm to 200mm space all round it to allow the filtration pipes for the pool to be fitted. You just lay the porous pipes in that space. They are really flexible so you pretty much just chuck them in wherever you want & connect them to your downpipes. Then backfill all round the pool.
Job done!

Yup. They do the same job.
