You've got it wrong. I'm not just considering exchange rates. It is the disparity in housing costs relative to salary. Canberra rental for a one bed apartment is circa $500 per week, therefore $2000. House rental prices are far wider than currency exchange rates between the two countries. For your information, my monthly housing rent in th UK is £500/month and this is average.
I just did a very broad search for a 3 bed house in all ACT areas between 400-500 per week rent. There were 134 to choose from, so maybe a house instead of a flat may be better? Be creative with your location and utilise public transport which is pretty decent. I also did a all area search for a 1 bed apartment between 250-400 per week and 64 came up. Thanks They tend to do it all on a points system in Oz which seems to be based around ID. I recommend trying to get as much local ID as possible as soon as you arrive. Like get a local drivers license straight away. |
