Thoughts from a long timer

I arrived in Melbourne from London in 1973.
Things have changed a lot here we had no internet ,or colour tv and had to book overseas phone calls.
I put up a huge sw antenna to pick up bbc worldservice radio in the dead of night.
We soon had to learn adapt or leave.
Moaning that you cant get a certain washing powder or beer is rubbish.
I missed the UK so much in the first five years that i went back for a three month holiday.
I returned in four weeks i felt like a strange fish out of water.
The happy smiling faces of the londoners that i remembered through my rose coloured glasses never exsisted.
From reading this site everyday my fear for you newcomers is the heat.
You all seem to rush to Pearth or Queensland for the sunshine.
Its great in Spain for two weeks but working in it is murder.
Why not try Victoria for a year and then go south.
I remember in the Uk always running the boss down in the teabreaks
but be warned when you do that over here some bum licker will always
pass on your comments so keep it to yourself.
If ever i can help with any questions just post to Aussiepeter.
Everyone complains about the adds on the tv easy buy two video taperecorders and
record everything and watch it the next day .
I have done that for 20 years.
You must all be asleep by now so will sign off.
Goodluck to all.

Great post - good to hear from someone who has been here a long time - and the hurdles you had to overcome.
Good on yer - I'm sure this will be very interesting for those still in UK to consider.
Have a good day, LJ

Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I have to agree with the heat bit. We've been over in oz twice now and have decided to settle in Victoria - weather played a major part in our decision.

Take care and post again soon.
