Hi There guyguy,
Im one of the 'lucky ones' who's just got PR. and also one of the few to give a detailed austimeline. If more people posted their details on there it would be a big help to others!
But briefly, i applied for my TRA assessment in April 2002, and my skilled ind. application was received in Adelaide on 7 May 2002 and got my PR granted on 23 Dec. 2002 about 9mths in total,. i also applied for STNI after about 6mths and this helped speed up my application.
Cheers and good luck with yours!

Do they still consider IT progammers for STNI?

It may depend on which state you apply for STNI. check out the State websites, ie. www.vic.gov.au this is for Victoria, [Melbourne is where im heading] they have their own MODL. if your particular area of IT is on their 'occupations in demand list', then you may be able to Qualify for STNI.
Hope this helps
Cheers
