Those already over in OZ
Apart from the obvious (family/friends - or maybe not!) what things, big or small do you really miss from back home? Did any of you suprise yourselves and actually miss the constant drizzle/damp?

Hi,
I had an email from my Brother who lives in Mandurah and he says that the weather has been awful with heavy rain and high winds. 17 degrees in the day and 3 degrees at night. So they do get the rain, the only difference is, it is their winter there.
My sister in law, who was born in Oz moved from Albany to Mandurah because she can't stand the cold. I am only pleased that she didn't come over here 3 Christmases ago. It was very hard to expalin to her what cold meant in England.

Exactly, I can suffer the crap weather in its place, cold and wet in the winter, but come on, where have our summers gone?

Was watching the Australlia's Funniest Home Movies Christmas in July Special last night and wouldn't mind seeing a bit of snow sometime, suppose I could head down to VIC.

Proper seasons (and everything that goes with it good and bad - even the whinging brit's who moan about the weather)
Brit comedy
family
friends
brit pubs
the countryside
the hills
the welsh coast
the smell of bracken
Good Brit Tv (ie documentaries - and not ruddy soaps like easterenders and such!)
The roads (watch the backlash for this one - lol)
The history
The people (good and bad)
The land
The food (ie - good choice of vegetarian stuff)
The attitude - ie "fight authority, when authority is wrong"
The green lush trees - (this may sound funny)
The feeling of "being"
The feeling of Being in a land of the Beings
The feeling of sense of reason

I am sure there will be a lot of things that I will miss.
We lived in Spain for a while and there were things that frustrated us over there, but my biggest miss was Horlicks at the time, even craved for it. Haven't touched the stuff since we got back.
My biggest will be my eldest daughter and grandchildren.

Don't miss anything too much, not enough to go back for anyway!
Do miss the shops, especially clothes. Also (don't laugh) Tesco's. Shopping takes an age whilst you read the blurb on unfamiliar packets etc. There are familiar ones too of course but some things you don't see anything you recognise, for example which fabric conditioner do you go for Fluffy or Cuddly!! Also as mentioned in other threads the lack of ready meals if you're in a rush or working late etc. There are heaps of take aways etc but the extent of ready meals is still at the lasagne stage. Getting used to it now though.
Ditto miss good British TV, but on the plus side we hardly watch TV these days, do other things instead.
Miss friends and family of course but not as much as I thought I would (don't tell them!), but it's still early days.

Having said that, I cannot cook without Bisto!!! My hubby being one of those fellows who would pour gravy on his cornflakes if he could, I need a steady supply and I have to go to a specialist "Brit Shop" for it, I looked online at Ozzie supermarkets and was relieved to find they sell it in the regular stores - yippee!

I agree. Not having lived in the UK for almost 8 years, you do actually get over it! You do miss the occasional thing or get a bit nostalgic sometimes but the plusses outweigh the minuses in my view.
Having said that, I cannot cook without Bisto!!!
